Ms. Pearl Elizabeth Wood

Pearl Elizabeth Wood was born on June 21, 1937, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Belton and Mary Christian. She was the eldest of three children. Pearl attended Scott Zion Elementary School where she was honored as the May Day Queen during her early years. As a child, she was an active member of Scott Zion Baptist Church where she sang with the Harmony Group choir and later joined the usher board. She went on to attend Madison Heights High School and after graduating, she married the late Albert Otis Wood. Together they were blessed with three sons. Soon after her marriage, Pearl relocated to Washington, D.C., where she became a devoted and faithful member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church. Throughout her career, she worked diligently in food services, became a proud restaurant owner, and later served as an environmental services supervisor for over 40 years. Pearl had a deep love for travel, with Florida being one of her favorite destinations. Through her timeshare, she created lasting memories by organizing family trips along the East Coast. She enjoyed posing for photographs and once dreamed of becoming a model in her younger years. She especially enjoyed cheering on the Washington Commanders and watching games with her sons. She also found joy in scenic drives and sightseeing, often with her favorite smoothie, Peanut Butter Paradise, in hand. In her later years, Pearl remained active in her church community through the senior ministry, where she formed meaningful friendships and enjoyed finger knitting. She also found great peace and happiness sitting on her front porch, taking in the simple pleasures of life. Pearl will be remembered as a compassionate, thoughtful, and loving woman whose kindness touched all who knew her. Her presence brought joy and comfort to her family and friends, and her legacy will live on through them. She leaves to cherish her memory her three sons, Albert O. Wood Jr., Clarence M. Wood, and Lee A. Wood; six grandchildren, Tiffany Reid, Christopher Wood, Albert Wood III, Keemo Ware, Zachary Wood, and Maya Wood; two brothers, Roosevelt Christian and Belton Christian Jr.; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
