Nancy M Drakeford

Nancy Mae Drakeford, a faithful servant of the Lord, and a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great- aunt and friend peacefully transitioned on March 25, 2026. Nancy was born in Kershaw, South Carolina on July 3, 1930. She was the third of five children born to the late Lee Thaniel and Eva Cook Simmons. Nancy was educated in the South Carolina public school system, where she was smart as a whip, especially in math. She grew up in Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Kershaw, South Carolina. Nancy moved to Washington DC in 1959 where she made many friends. Nancy had only one biological child and that was her beloved daughter Mae Frances Frazier, but there were so many others who called her mom because of the love that she poured into them. Upon moving to Washington DC, she joined the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and devoted member of the Hospitality Ministry, Bible Study, Church School, the Senior Stars Ministry, and a staunch supporter of the Deaconess Ministry. She also enjoyed spending holidays with the Secret Pal ministry and being on the daily 6 AM prayer line. Affectionately called Ms. Nancy by many, she loved the Lord and is known by the fruit of her spirit. Deeply rooted in the Lord, she loved to praise His name and give thanks for His grace and mercy. Nancy never boasted about her plans, instead she would say, "if nothing happens'", or "if it's the Lord's will". She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, cooking, and sewing. A self-taught seamstress, Ms. Nancy became known for her alterations. She also enjoyed watching T.V. Her favorite programs were the soaps, which included The Young and the Restless and General Hospital. Nancy enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars, The Golden Girls, and old westerns. Her favorite color was purple. Some would call her the queen of shopping because Nancy loved to shop, even if it was just through the window. She was a dynamic poet and writer, and in phone conversations, she'd fill quiet moments with her familiar, affectionate "yep, yep, yep." She was the best mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend that anyone could have. Nancy Drakeford was a woman deeply rooted in her faith and family. She lived a beautiful life of 95 years and was a true ambassador for Jesus Christ. She leaves the cherish her memory, her son-in-law, Robert Frazier, her grandchildren, Toni Rousey, Yvette Tuzon, and Robin Frazier - Snipes, love-grandson, Marc Frazier, a host of grand, great-grand, and greatgreat- grandchildren, and many other relatives and close friends who were very dear to her. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Dobie Drakeford, Jr., her daughter Mae Frances Frazier, and granddaughter Kimberly Robinson. A Homegoing celebration honoring her life and legacy will be held at Mount Moriah Baptist Church 1636 East Capitol St. NE. Washington DC 20003, on April 27, 2026. Viewing will be held at 9:30 AM followed by the funeral service at 11 AM
